Background of the Study: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a leading cause of workplace injury among healthcare workers globally. These disorders, which include back pain, joint pain, and repetitive strain injuries, are particularly common in hospital settings where workers frequently engage in tasks such as patient lifting, bending, and standing for long periods (Oshikoya et al., 2024). In Taraba State, healthcare workers face similar risks, with musculoskeletal disorders representing a significant health concern for hospital staff.
Nurses, as healthcare providers, play a vital role in preventing and managing MSDs among hospital staff. Their role includes educating colleagues on proper ergonomics, promoting the use of assistive devices, and encouraging regular breaks to reduce the risk of strain injuries (Johnson & Wright, 2023). Additionally, nurses can help implement preventive strategies and advocate for workplace adjustments, such as patient handling training, to mitigate the impact of musculoskeletal disorders.
While there has been considerable focus on MSDs among healthcare workers in other regions, less attention has been given to the specific role of nurses in preventing these conditions in Taraba State. This study aims to explore how nurses can contribute to preventing musculoskeletal disorders among hospital staff in the state.
Statement of the Problem: Musculoskeletal disorders are a prevalent concern among hospital staff in Taraba State, yet there is insufficient research on the role of nurses in preventing these conditions. Given their frontline position in healthcare, nurses can play a pivotal role in minimizing the incidence of MSDs by promoting ergonomic practices and providing education. This study will investigate the role of nurses in preventing MSDs among hospital staff in Taraba State and evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: The study will focus on the role of nurses in preventing musculoskeletal disorders among hospital staff in Taraba State healthcare facilities. Limitations may include variations in training and intervention programs across different hospitals and challenges in obtaining accurate data from hospital staff due to the sensitive nature of workplace injuries.
